Kevin Shin is a Tenafly dad, NJ born and raised, a finance professional, and a longtime advocate for children's education. From being an HSA Co-Treasurer at Smith to volunteering on national charities like Childhelp, he is running to bring his work smarts to our schools.

With decades of experience across education, technology, real estate, and finance, Kevin will fight to make sure more of our dollars reach the classroom. Tenafly is known for great schools, and Kevin believes Tenafly can keep tabs on taxes while keeping that standard.

Looking Out for the Well-Being of Students

School stress doesn't stop when the bell rings. Between classwork, activities, college pressure, and the pull of social media, students face pressures that follow them home.

Kevin wants schools and families to have practical tools to recognize stress early, manage it, and get help when needed.

  • Help students and parents use mental health resources
  • Create a parent-teacher task force that seeks to balance academic pressures and student well-being
  • Help students develop healthy habits around phones, screens and social media

Every child is gifted and every student deserves a place where they belong and shine — whether that's in Special Education, Gifted & Talented, on the athletic field, or in the arts. Tenafly already has great teachers and an abundance of resources — Kevin wants it to be easy for parents to find those resources. Kevin will advocate for clear, concise summaries that respect parents' time.

About Kevin

A Tenafly Dad Bringing His Expertise Home

Kevin Shin, candidate for Tenafly Board of Education

Kevin is running for the Board of Education because he wants Tenafly to protect what makes our schools strong — and make sure as much of every education dollar as possible reaches students.

Kevin was born and raised in New Jersey, went through its public schools, and is a longtime Tenafly resident, where both of his children attend Tenafly public schools. He has been an active volunteer in causes that support children and cares deeply about strong schools and the opportunities they provide to every student.

Kevin earned dual degrees in Computer Science and Economics from the University of Michigan, and brings more than 20 years of professional experience across government, education, technology, real estate, and finance. He spent six and a half years working in education and currently serves as a part-time Senior Board Advisor at a technology-focused company. Throughout his career, he has helped organizations make thoughtful decisions, plan for the future, and use their resources effectively.

Beyond the Campaign

Outside of the campaign, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, hiking, mushroom hunting, camping, playing pickleball, tennis and golf.
